Hold the door! Or… Hodor? Ahem…. HBO has just announced that an official Game of Thrones wine line, due to be released in the spring of 2017, coinciding with the premiere of the much-watched show’s seventh season.
The cable network has partnered up with Vintage Wine Estates for the series, which will feature three bottles (a proprietary red, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Chardonnay) and is expected to range in price from $19.99 to $39.99. The VWE portfolio already includes big name producers like B.R. Cohn, Delectus, Cosentino, and the aptly coined Girl & Dragon, which we assume has less to do with the Princess of House Targaryen than the name might otherwise suggest.
In the network’s press release, Director of Licensing and Retail Jeff Peters said, “Given the prominent role of wine on Game of Thrones and our previous success in the beverage category, an officially licensed wine for the show feels like a natural extension for our fans. Game of Thrones wines most definitely will add to the fan experience as the battle for the Iron Throne heats up heading into the final seasons.”
We recommend pairing your GoT wine with one of the many Game of Thrones drinking games peppering the ‘net, and make sure you save the bottle – the artwork is particularly inspired.
