Sonoma Magazine’s 7 Winemakers to Watch
0

Sonoma is one of the most well-known and well-respected wine regions not just in the U.S. but the world. It’s neighbor, Napa Valley, might get a little more press, but it’s important not to underestimate the quality of the wines coming from Sonoma. It’s equally essential that the people behind these mouthwatering wines get the recognition they deserve.

Sonoma Magazine is endeavoring to do just that with their recently released list of the 7 Sonoma winemakers to watch. You might not recognize all of the names, but trust us, if you love wine you’ll likely come to know each one of these producers in the near future.

A couple of the featured winemakers in the Sonoma Magazine piece include:

Erik Miller – Kokomo Winery, Dry Creek Valley

Kokomo has two wines on the Top 100 — 2015 Pauline’s Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Grenache Rosé and 2014 Winemaker’s Reserve Peters Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Miller has become a rosé whisperer of sorts, with his pale-pink wines winning competitions throughout the state. The Kokomo 2015 North Coast Rosé won Best of Class at the 2016 North Coast Wine Challenge, scoring an impressive 97 points.

Julia Iantosca – Lasseter Family Winery, Sonoma Valley

“What I like about blends is you start with a concept,” Iantosca said. “You choose the right grapes and barrels, and put the puzzle together to build a balanced, whole entity. It’s fun because you’re not constrained by what a particular wine ‘should’ be.”

It’s interesting to see a Sonoma insider’s opinion on which winemakers the world should key an eye on, but this list is also a valuable tool for those looking to build up their cellars with interesting wines that may be offered by vineyards with less name recognition (at least to the public at large) as some bigger competitors.
